Race the Devil

Three drivers escape the Devil’s clutches in York on Halloween night

Only 3 drivers managed to escape the clutches of ‘The Devil’ at last night’s York MotorSports Village themed annual ‘Race the Devil’ Halloween event. All the other 32 drivers were chased down by the Devil’s trickery which was a treat for those who were spectating in what has become an exciting and favourite annual event.

Following his spectacular failure the Devil has been banished to his lair to prepare for next year’s chase. Three drivers escape the Devil’s clutches in York on Halloween night

YMSV Continues Linfoot Sponsorship

Dan Linfoot ended his 2015 British SuperBike campaign in high spirits following a turbulent start to the season.

An exciting first round at Donnington Park saw the Yorkshire man in a thrilling battle (race 2) with the 2014 championship title holder Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrnes, which ended with Linfoot narrowly missing out on a win and settling for 2nd place. This positive start was short lived as Linfoot experienced a high speed fall, breaking his wrist, in the following round at Brands Hatch which put him out of action for the following two rounds.

Nevertheless, Dan made an excellent recovery and progressed to enter the top 6 showdown riders for the final three rounds, which eventually saw him finish 5th overall in the championship.

The 2016 BSB championship gets underway at Silverstone this weekend (08/04-10/04) with Dan Linfoot (#4) back on board his CBR1000RR for Honda Racing, alongside teammates Jason O’Halloran (#22) and Jenny Tinmouth (#20).

YMSV is delighted to continue its partnership with Dan and will be supporting him throughout his 2016 campaign. Look out for our logo and weblink across his visor - Good luck buddy!!

And So It Begins...

The diggers have rolled in to commence ground works on the all new and exciting York Community Stadium project.

The neighbouring rugby stadium know as Huntington Stadium was agreed by the Council Executive, back in 2010, as the most suitable place in York to build the new Community Stadium. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016 and will boast:

  • An 8,000 capacity stadium for both York Knights RLFC and York City FC.
  • A community Hub incorporating York NHS Trust, York St Johns, York Against Cancer and a Library.
  • Leisure facilities including a 25m swimming pool (which will replace the decaying Waterworld), sports hall, gym & dance studio, 3G pitches and an adventure zone.

In addition, the project will include retail space and a multiplex cinema which will complement the recently completed Vangarde Shopping Park.

However, before a single brick can be laid, the site is to be excavated as it is of significant archaeological interest. Markings in the land beside the stadium indicate that the site was once occupied by a Roman camp. In fact in 2003 archaeologists excavated one less than 250m to the south-east. Those involved with the Dig will complete their own schedule but handover to the constructors will be partially determined by any findings.

For more information on the project and what’s happening on our doorstep visit www.yorkcommunitystadium.co.uk

Race the Devil - 31.10.14

At 19:20 the great lord of the fiery underworld, the Devil himself, exploded onto the circuit. Bathed in a mysterious red glow, the Devil demonstrated his prowess ahead of his anxiously awaiting victims.

A fantastic evening full of drama and suspense which provided a unique twist to the theme of Halloween was clearly enjoyed by both customers and staff.

Participating drivers became locked in a fierce battle to outrun the Devil, who started a lap behind, in an effort to win 50% of their entry fee back.

Devil Racer

With a show of force the Devil proved that he was not to be taken lightly and subsequently claimed all of his 37 victims. The final group of the evening (containing the fastest drivers from the practice session) gave the Devil the best run for his money. Participant David Cliff was running strong but hit trouble midpoint of the race when a fellow competitor slowed him down. Cliff held out for 39 laps but was passed on the second-to-last turn of the final lap, becoming the most successful driver of the event.

The Devil has since descended back to his lava engulfed abode where he taunts the souls of the condemned and defeated, until next year when he returns to take on new challengers.

A Winning Formula

STEVE CARROLL got behind the wheel on a new simulator at York Motorsport Village to see just how realistic GPXperience is. He wasn’t disappointed.

SEBASTIAN VETTEL can sleep safely in his bed. I’ll not be challenging him at any point soon for the world driver’s championship.

It was all a bit of a blur, to be honest. One of careering corners, fighting through gravel and meeting tyre walls at speeds I was only comfortable observing through the spaces between my racing gloves.

Faithfully recreating what I managed in ten minutes on the track at Silverstone, Singapore and Monaco would cost a Formula One team tens of millions of pounds and exhaust a nation’s supply of carbon fibre.

So it’s a good thing that I’m not actually on the Tarmac at the home of British racing, or driving through the narrow, cramped streets of a principality.

I’m in a simulator.

How quickly you forget that, though, is testament to the incredibly immersive pseudo-reality that is GPXperience at York Motorsports Village. Behind a key-coded door lies a £60,000 cockpit ready to transport you to the track.

Based on a 2007 Red Bull, it’s as close to stepping into a real F1 car as most of us are going to get.

Step is an odd term, actually. You don’t get in, so much as lie down. With your feet paddling the break and accelerator, and a paddle shift steering wheel – taken from GP2 – to direct, you are almost flat on your back as you traverse chicanes and dodge computerised cars.

It is weirdly realistic. The five metre wrap-around screen, the high definition graphics and the almost overpowering noise of the engine tricks your brain into believing that everything you see in front of you is real.

I blink frantically as the speed of the twists and turns sends the back end of my car flying off the track.

I throw my hands up to protect myself as I stab the break too hard and an oncoming wall rushes quickly into view. I feel a glorious rush of satisfaction as I hit full throttle on my Ferrari and throw the car through a corner at Silverstone at full speed.

It is a thrilling ride and I can’t wait to have another go.

GPX Championship

For the first time ever, York Motorsports Village is combining F1 simulation technology with a league style championship series.

Starting with the Australian GP on the weekend beginning Thu 13 March and finishing with the Abu Dhabi GP in November, competitors can enter any or all of the 19 races which mirrors the official F1 season, earning points for their performance.

Races cost just £19.95 per person and with no joining fee or commitment; the championship provides a low cost alternative to a real-life racing series but still carries the same level of excitement, nerves and technicality ability.

The GPX Championship is gathering huge interest. So, if you're an fan of F1, a race gaming enthusiast or just fancy some exciting and competitive fun then sign up today.

PRESS NOTICE 17 JANUARY 2014

York Motorsport Village, a newly refurbished karting facility on the Monks Cross Retail Park is pleased to announce a collaboration with Yorkshire’s own British Superbike racer Dan Linfoot.

Dan has been competing professionally since 2009, having previously raced in World Championships. Dan now competes in the British Superbike Championship for the Quattro Plant Kawasaki team, and feels a collaboration with a motorsports venue to the calibre of YMSV is a great backing to have.

"I'm delighted to become involved with York MotorSports Village, their new facilities are second-to-none, and we share the same views in motorsports, they're driven to be the best. I will be a regular at their venue, and look forward to a blossoming relationship that can benefit us both, from my racing and their MotorSports Village."

Phil Hannington, General Manager at YMSV commented “We are delighted to have linked up with Dan for the 2014 BSB season, and his testing and feedback of our new facilities has helped us to ensure we get our customer offer just right. Having spent a significant sum to make the overall facility an undoubted leader in its field, the endorsement from a true racing professional has been very well received. Dan is also very approachable, so we were delighted when he agreed to race in our upcoming open events on 1 February and 1 March, and it’s not often you get the chance to race ‘head to head’ against a true professional to test your skill”.

YMSV are holding an initial number of events that you can book onto and race with Dan, the first dates being Sat 1st Feb & Sat 1st March, and if your skills allow you beat him, the race winner will be rewarded with BSB tickets to an event during the BSB 2014 calendar.

GPX Season Finale- 20-23 November

A season of thrills and spills comes down to the last race at the world famous Yas Marina Circuit for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The championship is currently lead by Dudley Valentine who entered the competition halfway through the season. Valentine's consistent performance has seen him creep up the leaderboard over the last few months. He'll be racing hard to maintain his 44 point lead over second place driver Ben Adamson. Meanwhile, third placed driver, Phillip Wilkinson jnr, needs just 28 points to secure second but will be hopeful of Adamson failing to make the grid.

Although a championship win is not achievable, you can enter the final race of the season for just £15 and experience the excitement of immersive Formula 1 simulation yourself. Start in Pole Position from the grid of 22 cars and race for 20 minutes. Call to book your space on the grid now 01904 673555 or for more information click here
